Landscape at the Table

PROJECT RECORD
THE WORK
Landscape at the Table is a contemporary banquet hall concept guided by distant mountains, nearby water, and open space. It translates the depth of Chinese landscape painting into spatial relationships. Staggered translucent screens, ridge-like walls, and a layered, cloud-inspired ceiling create a sense of depth that unfolds as guests move, pause, and take their seats. The foyer connects to the main hall through a continuous central passage, with reception and waiting areas arranged along its sides. Overlapping screens alternately conceal and reveal views, establishing foreground, middle ground, and background. Reception desks and seating provide places for check-in, waiting, and conversation, allowing circulation and gathering to coexist. The photography area offers a distinct setting defined by a layered mountain-shaped backdrop and soft lighting. Its curves continue the landscape language of the main hall, while screens establish a visual boundary between photography and circulation. Guests can pause for portraits before entering the banquet, making this moment part of the ceremonial experience. In the main hall, an open central axis preserves spaciousness. Round tables are arranged on either side, directing attention toward the distant stage backdrop. Undulating walls suggest mountain ridges, while flowing ceiling contours evoke layers of clouds. These horizontal forms work with the vertical rhythm of screens and wall elements to create an ordered setting in which the celebration takes center stage. The material language focuses on translucency, texture, and touch. Gradient translucent glass suggests partially revealed mountain silhouettes, while slim metal frames keep the screens visually light. Softly illuminated textured walls add depth to the background. Light-colored stone, wood finishes, and ivory textiles establish a restrained, warm palette, complemented by upholstered benches in the waiting areas. Lighting works with the curved forms. Concealed light follows the ceiling and mountain-shaped walls to reveal their contours and depth. Soft illumination near the screens brings out the glass texture and balances openness with a sense of enclosure. Reception, photography, dining, and the stage each have a lighting focus, supporting conversation, portraits, and ceremonial viewing. Details maintain continuity across the space. Translucent glass, slender frames, upholstered seating, and concealed entrances are coordinated with the rhythm of walls and screens. Further construction development focuses on segmented frames, curved finishes, glass fixing, and lighting access, connecting the visual concept with installation and maintenance. Landscape at the Table creates a landscape that guests can enter and inhabit through depth, light, and open space. From arrival and photography to taking their seats, guests become part of the spatial narrative. The landscape becomes a setting for gathering and celebration.

JURY COMMENDATION
Landscape at the Table demonstrates a clear and coherent translation of Chinese landscape-painting principles into a contemporary hospitality interior. Layered screens, flowing ceiling contours and carefully controlled sightlines create spatial depth without sacrificing circulation or ceremonial function. The restrained material palette and integrated lighting reinforce the concept across arrival, photography, dining and stage areas. The project is distinguished by the consistency between its visual narrative, spatial organisation and practical detailing.
